Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would be moving to a foreign country to live, let alone a country in the Middle East. Over the 2009 Christmas and New Year’s holidays, my husband Roger and I discussed what we wanted the next part of our life to be like. He thought that before retiring, he would like to do one more airport project but only if he could find something very interesting. I half-jokingly agreed that would be fine but could he try for an exotic location? As usual, Roger came through and soon we were headed to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. This blog is a recap of our "leap-of- faith" wanderings around the Middle East and beyond. We joyfully share these expat experiences.

Blogging Boomers Blog Carnival #260

This has been such a special month astronomically speaking.  First we had the super moon on May 5th, and then an annular solar eclipse. Don’t miss these pictures, because we won’t see another until 2023!

Midlife writers: Have you heard about Midlife Collage yet?  It’s a website where anyone age 40-60 can share their stories for everyone else to enjoy.  The story chosen to be the best each week by readers, wins the author $50 plus bragging right!

Big news!  My story: “AMBUSHED BY LOVE!” was the big winner last week!  Thanks to all of you for your votes.

On to the business at hand! What have my fellow midlife bloggers been talking about this week?  EVERYTHING!

In the face of dire predictions of food shortages, Vaboomer reviews a new book called  “The Good Food Revolution.”

SoBabyBoomer reflects on a large brokerage firm making huge bets and also advising customers on their investments

The Accidental Locavore found some beautiful smoked trout at the local farmer’s market and used it in this recipe for a main course salad. Added bonus, a great new way to roast potatoes!

Expats living in Dubai are delighted to have friends and family visit their adopted city.  The lucky ones get to stay for an extended period, but in many cases it is simply a pass through on the way to/from other travels.  So in just 36 hours, what are the “must see” places in Dubai?

Go read the “Arabian Tales” of Katie Foster: 10 Things to Do and See in Dubai.

Tom over at Sightings At 60 just got off the phone with his 20 something daughter, and after some discussion about her apartment and the messy mechanical condition of her car, he wonders if we should be offering any financial help to our grownup kids.

I’ll bet you didn’t know May is Better Hearing Awareness Month.  Hearing loss affects nine million older adults in the United States, and is one of the most common health problems in our country – but also one of the most under-diagnosed and undertreated.

This week on The Survive and Thrive Boomer Guide Rita R. Robison, consumer journalist, wrote about boomer hearing loss in “Baby Boomers Need to Be Aware of Possible Hearing Loss as They Get Older and the Importance of Getting a Hearing Test.”

And now for a word from our sponsor, ME!            One of my favorite subjects in the whole world is pets, because they so often make my life fun and meaningful.  I heard a news story this week.                 It seems that dogs do feel love…   Well duh!

And don’t miss my new post about how solar eclipses can impact our relationships.
