Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would be moving to a foreign country to live, let alone a country in the Middle East. Over the 2009 Christmas and New Year’s holidays, my husband Roger and I discussed what we wanted the next part of our life to be like. He thought that before retiring, he would like to do one more airport project but only if he could find something very interesting. I half-jokingly agreed that would be fine but could he try for an exotic location? As usual, Roger came through and soon we were headed to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. This blog is a recap of our "leap-of- faith" wanderings around the Middle East and beyond. We joyfully share these expat experiences.

PeaceToday is International Day of Peace. Arabian Tales Katie Foster finds it ironic that this year the date falls just as our world grapples with seemingly never ending whirlwinds of protests and violence fueled by hate. A personal comment on the Film . . the Mobs . . the Violence.

DriverTom Sightings took the American Safety Council course on auto safety, because his insurance agent said it would save him 10 percent on his auto insurance bill. Check out his post Top Ten Auto Safety Tips to find out what was obvious, what was really obvious, and . . . what he actually learned.

PoisonRiceOn The Survive and Thrive Boomer Guide, Rita R. Robison, consumer journalist, writes about recent tests by Consumer Reports on arsenic in rice. Consumer Reports found significant amounts of arsenic in many of the rice products it tested.
It offers suggestions for reducing the amount of rice consumers eat. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a statement the same day the Consumer Reports findings were announced. The FDA said it also found arsenic in its preliminary tests of rice products, which were consistent with the Consumer Reports findings. However, the agency said its tests won’t be complete until the end of the year when it may or may not offer recommendations for consumers.
