If you have been reading my blog you know of the trials and tribulations (anyone remember the film The Perils of Pauline) I faced settling into Dubai. Couldn't have done it without my friend, Anne O'Connell's advice. She is so smart she has written a book @home in Dubai . . .Getting Connected Online and on the Ground. It is must read for anyone actually moving or contemplating moving to this wonderful city. I promise it will make your settling in a whole lot easier.
@home in Dubai is a powerful tool for anyone re-locating to Dubai, UAE. Packed full of reliable and useful information, the author’s lighthearted approach to relocating to this uniquely vibrant city helps relieve some of the angst of a daunting task.
Anne’s experience of living and working in Dubai and her wealth of contacts in the expat community give the book its heart and soul. It is rather like having conversation with your best friend.
Surviving the sometimes irrational bureaucratic red tape as you go through the seemingly endless tasks of setting up your new home in Dubai, can be enough to send some people back home on the next plane. No need for that if you use @home Dubai’s practical tips, checklists and quality resources. They encapsulate the process into easily manageable tasks. Especially useful are the Practicalities and 5 Steps at the end of each chapter. Here you get a ready-made checklist to successfully accomplish the BIG Move. An enormous time saver is the list of reliable online sites that have been vented by Anne’s Dubai expat friends.

When I relocated to Dubai 20 months ago, it was Anne’s wealth of information that let me slip into life in Dubai with relative ease. How thoughtful of her to have put it all down in writing so that others can benefit from her experience and avoid some of the pitfalls of not exact or missing information or the ever present uninterested, ill-informed clerk.
Whether you are moving to Dubai for work or are a STARS (spouse traveling and relocating successfully), this is a must read – a bible that will lead you into the promised land of enchanting, beautiful Dubai.

Having read @Home in Dubai I agree that it is a fantastic book for all newcomers and expats to the city. I wish Anne much success with it...and all her future projects.
ReplyDeleteThanks Katie! I really was the lucky one when you moved to Dubai. It was so awesome to have a friend from home (my second home anyways) join me. Thanks for the good wishes Zvezdana! It's been fun and everyone has been so supportive. I've really enjoyed the process and just hope this book can be helpful to others.
ReplyDeleteAnne :)
The use of travelling is to regulate imagination by reality, and instead of thinking how things may be, to see them as they are.
